The companies involved in individual and small batch production are exposed to the challenges of "batch size 1". Low repetition rates in products and processes lead to the fact that classical mechanics of planning systems do not function according to requirements. In addition, there are frequent dynamic changes in the framework conditions as a result of short-term rush and repair orders, as well as later customer requests that must be taken into account in planning and control.

Goals and procedure

The dynamics and complexity in the planning and control of individual and small series production often cannot be sufficiently taken into account. The aim of the new BMBF research project “PrioTisch” is the development and piloting of a digital control table, which supports the employees of individual and small series production in planning and control on the shop floor.

Through a direct connection of the control table to the planning system as well as the integration of the machine operator using digital terminal devices, planning and control should be much more updated. With this concept, machine operators and planners can use their specific knowledge to optimize planning and control and systematically integrate it into planning and control.

Innovations and perspectives

The digital control table enables digitally networked and real-time planning and control on the shop floor with the involvement of employees, thus improving productivity, throughput time and the attractiveness of the workplace.

The new research project will be carried out in cooperation with WBA Tooling Academy Aachen GmbH, Heinz Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG and i2solutions GmbH.
