Basic Seminars in Manufacturing Technology - Research Content first hand

The Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University is known for its excellent research in the field of production engineering. In cooperation with WZL Aachen GmbH, the Chair of Manufacturing Technology at WZL has been offering interested experts from industry the opportunity to dive deeper into various research topics. Within the framework of basic seminars, WZL Aachen GmbH imparts basic knowledge from the Chair of Manufacturing Technology in the areas of cutting technology, grinding technology, centerless grinding technology, forming technology, electrical discharge machining and electrochemical machining and the RWTH certificate course in fine blanking.

 

Target group of the seminar series are users of the respective technologies, machine operators, foremen as well as employees from work preparation, production, service and sales. The lecturers are members of the individual research groups at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University. In numerous industrial projects and working groups, they support companies in process selection and optimization of their existing processes.

Starting in 2019, the basic seminar on cutting technology will be offered for the first time for various target groups, for beginners and advanced users. The beginners' seminar on cutting technology is directed towards users without previous knowledge of cutting technology. The seminar offers an introduction to the basic knowledge of turning, drilling and milling. In addition to the basics of cutting, an introduction to the assessment of machinability and process design is given. In addition, an insight into metrological investigation and digitalization in the context of cutting technology will be given. Practical demonstrations on machines and tools will deepen the basic knowledge.

The advanced seminar in cutting technology is directed towards users with solid basic knowledge, such as mechanics, foremen or CAM programmers. The contents of this seminar are, for example, substrates and coatings or high-performance cutting. Current insights into developments in digitalization and process monitoring are provided. In addition, current research topics are discussed and user questions from the practical experience of the participants are discussed.

The first date for the beginners seminar is March 20 and 21, 2019.
The first date for the advanced seminar is September 10 and 11, 2019.
