Productivity Increase through Technology of High-Performance Machining
Seventh Aachen High-Performance-Cutting Conference
The increasingly dynamic world market leads to enormous performance and competitive pressure from manufacturing companies. The resulting increasing cost pressure requires the development of manufacturing processes with increased process reliability, productivity and economic efficiency. Innovative production concepts and high-performance technologies must start here in order to achieve time and cost optimization in the sense of increasing productivity.
In this context, the high-performance cutting technology (HPC) represents new developments in significantly reduce of main and throughput times. This reduction is achieved by increasing machining volumes, adapting tool and machine concepts and taking a holistic view of the process chain. In addition, the increasingly digitized manufacturing process offers an important starting point for process optimization. The demand for high-performance processes is given when new materials that are difficult to machine are used. This applies in particular to the aviation and automotive industries.
Not only in the context of digitized production networking, exchange and discussion with the experts of one's own department is of great importance. The 7th Aachen HPC Conference offers the opportunity to deal with the opportunities and challenges of digitization in machining, to stimulate a rethinking of process understanding and to consider the resulting potentially added value through the networking of processes.
Professor Bergs, Chair of Manufacturing Technology at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University.
Current research focuses on high-performance machining of titanium and nickel-based alloys, high-strength steels and cast iron materials, lead-free steel and copper materials as well as composite materials.
At the High-Performance-Cutting (HPC) Conference from 23 to 24 October 2018, speakers from research and industry will present their experiences and developments in the field of high-performance cutting with geometrically defined cutting edges. Johann Hofmann (Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH), Dr. Franz Fischer (BorgWarner Turbo Systems Worldwide Headquaters GmbH), Dr. Dirk Kammermeier (FRAISA SA) or Dr. Christoph Czettl (Ceratizit Austria GmbH) are only some of the speakers who pass on their knowledge to the participants. The main topics of the lectures are tools and processes of HPC machining, innovative cutting materials and coating, future-oriented machine tool concepts in HPC machining, challenges and opportunities of digitized manufacturing and process design, control and monitoring of HPC machining.
Since 2006, the HPC conference takes place regularly every two years with about 100 participants.
