In September 2018, the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University, together with WZL Aachen PS GmbH and ten consortium partners, will start a broad-based company comparison. The aim of the consortium benchmarking "Production Planning of the Future" is to identify and understand successful and practice-proven approaches to the further development of production planning and control and to profit from these examples.

Production planning is essential to ensure the competitiveness and thus the success of a company. The aim is always to manufacture products according to customer specifications and on schedule. In particular, forward-looking production planning and control (PPC) supports the economic efficiency of production.

The availability of real-time data opens up new possibilities for successfully planning and controlling a company's production in today's volatile environment. The speed of action of the companies will be increased by the production planning of the future: Act instead of react. These innovations also bring challenges. An early and systematic implementation of methods and components is important to ensure smart, networked and successful PPS.

To meet this challenge, the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University brings together ambitious decision-makers and shows successful practical approaches. In an open dialogue, participants have the opportunity to exchange knowledge and experience and to take practical suggestions for their own area of responsibility with them - both in discussions with each other and with the selected successful-practice-companies. The successful practices are determined on the basis of a questionnaire which the consortium partners actively participate in shaping at the beginning of the project. Interested companies are welcome to join the industrial consortium.
