From Lean Production to Industry 4.0
Tuesday, September 22nd, 2020
While manufacturing companies have for years relied on lean production as an approach to efficient production design, technological developments are bringing the vision of real-time controllable production closer. In Germany, this development is discussed under the keyword "Industry 4.0". But how can lean production best be combined with Industry 4.0? Where are the limits of the approaches and when is which approach suitable? In order to increase competitiveness, short reaction times, low costs and efficient value creation are required, especially in one-off and small-batch production. The seminar addresses the task areas of production management and presents basic knowledge, methods and current examples, which will be discussed together with the participants. A higher-level understanding of the design of processes in the area of conflict between Lean Production and Industry 4.0 is conveyed. Through practical exercises, the participants will make their own experiences with Industry 4.0 technologies in the demonstration factory of the Smart Logistics Cluster of RWTH Aachen University. The seminar takes place in cooperation with the Lean Enterprise Institute, Aachen.
