In 2012, the partners mimatic, Ott-Jakob Spanntechnik, Sauter and the Werkzeugmaschinenlabor WZL of the RWTH Aachen University began developing the pti as part of the REVOSIT project sponsored by the BMWi with the aim of standardizing a uniform tool interface for turret lathes that meets the requirements of modern machining processes and contributes to a reduction in today's interface diversity.

The mechanical interface (pti) was developed and tested up to the functional prototype. A uniform turret coupling and standardized interfaces for different media were only brought into the focus of the project partners in the course of the project as absolutely necessary elements of the new interface.

In the current project REKUNORM, which is supported by the BMWi, the companies Sauter Feinmechanik, Ott-Jakob Spanntechnik, WTO and Weisser, together with the WZL, will develop a uniform drive coupling for driven tools and will submit it to standardization. This project will also develop solutions for the transmission of media such as cooling lubricant, minimum quantity lubrication, sealing air and oil-air bearing lubrication.

The standardization of the coupling is necessary for the integration of the pti interface into other turret designs in addition to the radial disc turret, which is also being investigated in this project.

At the end of the project, the pti will be intensively investigated in its full functionality in a white lathe, with a Sauter turret, Ott-Jakob clamping sets and tools from WTO at the WZL.
