The scientific focus of the subproject "Component and Assembly Investigation" is on the investigation of the thermo-elastic behaviour of machine tool components and assemblies and provides for the development of simulation models for the prediction of thermally induced structural deformations as a function of measurable physical quantities based on experimental experiments.

In this context, two main objectives are pursued. On the one hand, metrological investigations of components and assemblies on specially developed and commissioned test benches serve to analyse and evaluate the respective thermo-elastic behaviour. The friction behaviour of thermally active components is particularly important here. On the other hand, it is necessary to simulate the previously measured behaviour with the aid of FE models.

In addition, a motor spindle serves as an integration object for the fusion of partial results from various subprojects of the Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio 96 - SFB/TR 96 - into one object of investigation. In addition to a metrological analysis, the development of an online-capable thermo-mechanical simulation environment is a central component of the work. This allows a process parallel calculation of the thermo-mechanical operating point of the spindle bearing system by using internal control data.
