The aim of the new INKOBAU joint project - information networks for cross-company collaboration in the production chains of the construction industry - is the networking of planning, prefabrication and construction site processes. Seven partners from industry and three research institutions have joined forces to this end. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research - BMBF - is supporting the large-scale project with funding totalling 3.28 million euros, which will be distributed between May 2019 and April 2022. RWTH Aachen University, headed by Prof. Dr. techn. Brell-Cokcan, has taken over the coordination of this complex research project.
Through the close cooperation of RWTH Aachen with companies and institutions from the fields of civil engineering, mechanical engineering and software development, digitisation strategies are to be developed for the comprehensive exchange of information between all companies involved in the construction of a building. Information chains along the construction process, from the planning phase through prefabrication to the construction site, are considered, automation and digitisation potentials are identified and models for a continuous flow of information are created. With a comprehensive maturity level and reference architecture model, a comprehensive basis is to be created to facilitate complex challenges through uniform digitisation strategies and to avoid risks for construction defects and delays.
In the project, which is planned to run for three years, the Chair for Individualized Construction Production - IP - and the Chair for Production Measurement Technology and Quality Management at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering - WZL - of Prof. Dr.-Ing. R. H. Schmitt of the RWTH Aachen University are working together with a broad-based consortium. The project partners include: LEONHARD WEISS GmbH & Co. KG - civil engineering, Liebherr-Werk Biberach GmbH - construction site equipment, KUKA Deutschland GmbH - automation solutions, Robots in Architecture Research UG - software development, Wurst Stahlbau GmbH - steel and industrial construction, Annen GmbH & Co. KG - wood & glass facade systems, Lamparter GmbH & Co. KG - steel & glass construction - and the International Performance Research Institute gGmbH - economic feasibility study.
