The Internet of Production is based on the vision to enable a new level of cross-domain collaboration by providing semantically adequate and contextual data from production, development and usage in real time and adapted granularity. The central scientific approach is to provide digital shadows as application-specific aggregated and multi-perspective data sets. For this purpose, a conceptual reference infrastructure will be designed and implemented in the Cluster of Excellence, which will enable the generation and use of digital shadows.
Research objective and procedure
Within the Internet of Production, the potentials for production management are developed by WZL of RWTH Aachen together with FIR, IAW, DBIS, TIME, IKV, ITA, PADS and IMA/ZLW of RWTH. The focus here is on improving decision quality as well as decision and implementation speed at all levels of production management, i.e. from the production area to the production network level, in a volatile and uncertain business environment. Apps are to be developed for decision support, which prepare the necessary information from the different areas of production, development and use for the user situation-specifically and make it available in real time.
For example, it will be investigated how the transition times in production planning and control can be predicted using Data Analytics. In addition, a further application application is being developed for the control of production networks for a cross-location exchange of best practices.
