Behind the trend term Artificial Intelligence (AI) are important technologies with which small and medium-sized enterprises can also create sustainable added value. As a partner of "Digital in NRW - Kompetenz für den Mittelstand", the WZL now offers support to companies. Digital in NRW" is supported by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Energy BMWi with around one million euros.

In times of digitalization, new data is generated in companies on a daily basis. These are true treasures, which only unfold their value with targeted use.

It is also important for small and medium-sized enterprises to get to know and use the concrete application possibilities behind the catchword artificial intelligence. Digital in NRW pursues the goal of establishing AI competencies in the companies themselves. Employees should build up extensive knowledge and thus firmly anchor the future topic of AI in their own companies.

Diverse offers on the subject of AI

Technologies such as machine learning or industrial data science enable new processes, products and business models that increase profitability. By the end of 2020, medium-sized companies will be able to take advantage of various offers from Digital in NRW. Specialist events and demo tours are specifically dedicated to this topic, while companies can take advantage of blended learning training courses and an AI toolbox. Through an initial discussion and further potential analyses within the company, questions relating to the use of AI within the company can be discussed individually and precisely.

All three Digital locations in NRW - Aachen, Dortmund, Ostwestfalen-Lippe - have their own AI trainers. Together with small and medium-sized companies, they want to take important steps towards artificial intelligence in the coming years. On the one hand, data generated by the company must be recognized, stored and specifically processed. This fundamental preparatory work for the use of AI solutions is often still pending, especially in medium-sized companies. On the other hand, the AI trainers are dedicated to building competence within the companies.

AI can be used particularly well when companies have their own experts in this field. In the Competence Center, we are taking our first joint steps in small projects with simple applications.
