In the course of digital transformation, production facilities are increasingly merging with information technologies. On the basis of these networked, interacting hardware and software systems, which are further developed into highly complex cognitive production systems by means of sensors and actuators as well as techniques from machine learning, it will be possible in future to transport and process more and more state and effect data as well as interactions directly into superordinate (business) processes. Today, both the lack of data availability and the heterogeneity of the tools used prevent the continuous use of simulation processes in digital services. Complex services require not only a database, such as a digital twin, but also the embedding of digital services into existing service processes via suitable (business) process and system integration mechanisms. This in turn requires suitable platform solutions and interactive interfaces, such as VR/AR, in order to ensure efficient and effective cooperation between (machine) suppliers, system integrators and their customers.
The aim of the SEAMLESS research project is the development and provision of new SME-compatible Internet-based after-sales services. A cloud-based toolbox suitable for SMEs is being developed as a B2B-integrated smart service platform for the provision of simulations and for the processing of services. The aim is to couple different input data and simulation tools of a simulation ecosystem. It will be complemented by a visualization concept based on virtual and augmented reality, which will design the interaction between man and machine user friendly. The development of simulation-supported services requires the consideration of data sovereignty and security.
