Starting Situation

Existing local calculation models for beveloid gearing allow the calculation of the tooth root bearing capacity using a flaw model and a flaw distribution. Beveloid gears with parallel axis arrangement are taken into account. The comparison between test bench and simulation results shows a very high agreement of the results. However, industrial applications in the automotive and shipping industries often have beveloid gears with intersecting axle positions. The industrial applicability of the findings is therefore limited, as a validation of the developed calculation method for intersecting axle positions is pending.

Research Objective

The aim of the research project is to extend the calculation methods developed in the DFG project "Development and verification of a method for determining the tooth root bearing capacity of conical cylindrical gears" (BR 2905/39-1) for the tooth root bearing capacity of beveloids with parallel axes to arbitrary axial positions. In addition, the new calculation method is to be transferred to an industrial application. This makes it possible to use previously unused potential in the design of beveloids, resulting in improved application behavior or reduced manufacturing costs. In addition, the local calculation approach can be used to define tolerances for tooth flank modifications on the basis of a functional approach. The standard calculation approach for the tooth root bearing capacity of beveloid gears is to be extended by the properties of intersecting axes.
