Within the framework of this research project, an integrated approach to the design of mechatronic modular systems is being developed through the formation of mechatronic function modules and the targeted restriction of systemic degrees of product freedom. Through the functional orientation and the targeted limitation of product degrees of freedom, the optimal use of the design parameters in the sub-disciplines of mechatronic systems is ensured. This achieves the goal of increasing the cost-effectiveness of product kits for mechatronic systems. The following subgoals go hand in hand with the overriding objective of this application:

  • design of a description model for the structuring of mechatronic function modules by a functional and product-related description
  • design of a description model for generic classification and module-specific derivation of degrees of freedom in mechatronic systems
  • establishment of an explanatory model for quantifying the systemic effect of product degrees of freedom in mechatronic systems using key figures
  • establishment of a design model for the design of mechatronic function modules by targeted limitation of systemic product freedom levels
  • development of a design model for the configuration of a construction kit of mechatronic function modules by identification and resolution of conflicting objectives

By addressing the formulated partial goals, a systematic design of mechatronic modular systems can take place. This enables the optimal use of mechatronic degrees of freedom and ultimately an increased use of economies of scale within the designed modular system.
