The project Step2Future is the third collaboration project of the RWTH Aachen University and the German University of Technology in Oman (GUtech) under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Robert Schmitt with the aim to further strengthen the visibility and the German connection. The project is funded by the DAAD within the framework of the funding programme "Transnational Education - Strengthening and Excellence through Profile Building (TNB-Step)".

The GUtech is a technological private university in the capital of Oman, Muscat. The university was founded in 2006 and has grown steadily since then, so that in 2019 it will already be training over 2000 students. It currently offers eight bachelor's and five master's degrees.

The RWTH Aachen supports the GUtech since its foundation in implementing its vision "to become a leading University of Technology in Oman and the wider region, thus defining the highest standards in education, research and innovation". Following the fundamental development of the university including all relevant structures and processes from 2006 to 2013, the follow-up project (2013 - 2017) focused on the further development and continuous improvement of the study programmes and continuing education offerings.
The current Step2Future project (2017 - 2021) continues the continuous further development of the university and serves, in particular, to sustain the project results already achieved and to strengthen the German connection (e.g. through the expansion of the internship programme, metrological laboratory exercises and the further training of teaching staff).
