e.GO Mobile AG
After the takeover of StreetScooter GmbH by the Deutsche Post DHL Group in 2014, Prof. Günther Schuh and a team of production researchers founded e.GO Mobile AG in 2015. In the beginning there was the fundamental question of the natural use of electric cars and what constitutes the genetic code of an electric car. The answer is the ideal typical city car, which drives emission-free, for short distances and can be produced cheaply.
How can a particularly cost-effective prototype and small series production be implemented with industry 4.0 and highly iterative development processes? Based on this consideration, e.GO Mobile AG is developing the particularly inexpensive e.GO Life electric vehicle on the RWTH Aachen Campus. The new model is an attractive, compact city vehicle that is particularly suitable as a second and third vehicle for multiheaded households or as a fleet vehicle. Thanks to the electric drive, the low center of gravity and the specially developed chassis, the e.GO Life offers enormous driving pleasure. The plastic-covered structure reduces the manufacturing costs of the vehicle, especially for relatively small quantities, compared to the usual self-supporting bodies. A 48-volt drive with large-series electric motors and a consistent modular design also contribute to the very low manufacturing costs.
The network of science and industry on the RWTH Aachen Campus makes it possible to develop this near-series vehicle for less than 30 million euros. Together with researchers from RWTH Aachen University, the e.GO team is testing the Scrum process for vehicle development that is known from software development.
