The latest developments in the field of industrial automation and communication will be the focus of the two-day trade fair "all about automation", which starts on June 5, 2019 in Hall 1 of Messe Essen with more than 140 exhibitors. Digital in NRW - Competence for SMEs" will also be represented at the industry meeting with innovative exhibits (Stand 609) and exciting contributions as part of the well-founded lecture programme. The focus here will be on practical reports on solutions already in use. On Thursday morning, Digital in NRW will present practical, smart strategies and measures for the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises in two specialist presentations in the Talk Lounge (Hall 1, Stand 100). At 10 am, Phil Hermanski (Fraunhofer IML, Dortmund) will give a lecture on "From hype to reality: Industry 4.0 on the ground", before Jan Hicking (FIR e. V. at RWTH Aachen University) will present a "Service portfolio for the smartification of products".

Collaborative robotics or AI-based order picking? You can find it at booth 609!

Interested trade visitors will learn how these strategies and digitalization measures can be successfully put into practice at the Digital stand 609 in NRW. Two demonstrators will illustrate what is already feasible today by using existing standards with regard to the Vision Industry 4.0:

A collaborative workplace for assembly and testing tasks from the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University shows the optimization of the assembly of products with many variants through the cooperation of man and robot. The process can be flexibly adapted to new product variants and enables long-term and economical operation.

The mobile demonstrator "ChAIn" from FIR e. V. at RWTH Aachen University focuses on the optimization of assembly and picking processes as well as processes in goods inspection and acceptance through the combination of AI and blockchain: Trade fair visitors experience a picking process that is monitored by a camera system with object recognition based on neural networks. Commissioning data is stored live in the networked, encrypted data records of a block chain. The block-chain checks whether the underlying customer order has been correctly fulfilled.

Of course, the experts from Digital in NRW will be available for discussions on the topics of digitalization and networking in SMEs and look forward to an intensive exchange.
