Mechanical engineering thrives on the moving equipment, stationary - machine tools or robots - and mobile - driverless transport systems or automobiles. These systems are based on the three pillars of mechanics, electronics and software. The electric drives and their control serve as the "red thread" for the representation of the basic of physical principles and lead over from the electrotechnical basics to the electrodynamic energy converters for electronic control engineering, which are used together with measurement technology is an important prerequisite for automation technology. The lecture is intended to provide students of mechanical engineering with fundamental, well-founded knowledge of electrical engineering. Furthermore, the interfaces to mechanics and software will be presented and clarified.
In the first lectures, the topics voltage, current and energy are covered in order to lay the foundations for the understanding of direct current networks. The electrical phenomena such as magnetic field, Lorenz force, induction, etc. are then covered to explain switching operations and electrical machines. The lecture concludes with the observation of alternating current networks and the associated electric motors, as well as the basics of signal processing.
