Industry 4.0 approaches and data analytics methods offer potential for a radical increase in productivity. However, the continuous improvement of processes - CIP - anchored in many production systems is no longer sufficient. The future challenges lie in the systematic identification of potentials for process innovations and their rapid implementation. In order to meet these challenges, we carried out a consortium benchmarking with the aim of identifying, understanding and profiting from successful and proven approaches to the further development of production systems.

The consortium benchmark started on June 19, 2018. In the following months an extensive questionnaire study was carried out together with the consortium partners in which we identified six successful practices. These were characterized in particular in the design of production systems by innovative approaches in the implementation of industry 4.0 initiatives and harmonization with classical lean principles.

Through the joint discussion among experts, and in particular through the company visits to the Successful Practices, valuable experiences in the design of production systems in the context of industry 4.0 could be impressively exchanged. This successful and constructive exchange will continue after the final conference on July 7, 2019. Companies will have the opportunity to join the newly founded "Production Systems Community" and benefit from the further exchange.
