Chair of Production Engineering

  Professor Schuh © WZL/Krentz

The issues of product and process planning of manufacturing companies are dealt with by the Chair of Production Engineering at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ing. Günther Schuh in a special way. A particular strength is the close connection between engineering and business administration research.

This includes core topics such as integrated product and process design, cooperative value creation, corporate development and corporate modelling. The chair is also significantly involved in the research activities on Industry 4.0. Industry 4.0 is the central enabler for agility in all business processes. The focus of Industry 4.0 is on the possibilities of data acquisition, storage, analysis and utilization. Based on lean processes and lean methods, the implementation of an individual Industry 4.0 infrastructure enables the creation and evaluation of the necessary data basis for the generation of knowledge in the company. This makes it possible for companies to learn systematically from their own product and production data and thus increase their ability to make forecasts and decisions.
