In the course of advancing globalization, companies in the manufacturing industry are increasingly facing intense competition. As a result, differentiation on the basis of quality or cost leadership will be difficult to achieve for many companies in the future. In response, companies in the manufacturing industry are therefore pursuing a transformation from a product provider to a solution provider offering holistic solutions. However, the takeover of customer value-added shares leads on the one hand to a shift in complexity from the customer to the supplier side and on the other hand to the need for more diverse resources and competencies. To meet these challenges, companies are increasingly operating in corporate value networks. However, it turns out that the consideration of necessary competencies, the handling of the increased complexity and the strategic orientation for a long-term business success are not systematically taken into account. The aim of the thesis is therefore the development of a methodology that supports the conception of the corporate value network taking into account the aforementioned aspects and thus contributing to the increase of profitability of the provision of product-service systems. The thesis is devided in four sub-models. The first step is to develop an adequate structure including a complexity-oriented description of product-service systems. Based on the structuring of the product-service system, modules of the product-service system (PSS modules) are defined in the second step and their strategic contribution to the underlying business model is determind. In the third step, the decision is supported which PSS modules should be provided by the provider of the product-service system and which should be provided by partners within the corporate value network. This involves an integrated consideration of the strategic contribution, required competencies and complexity of the provision of the PSS modules. Within the final fourth step, PSS modules are allocated in the corporate value network and standard strategies for the cooperative integration of partners are developed.
