The value chain in retail is increasingly determined by globally operating corporations. Due to the rapid development of e-commerce, large corporations are able to open up new customer segments and gain market shares through online trade. Especially in rural areas, the strong growth in online and mail-order trade leads to socio-structural, economic and logistical challenges. Retailers and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often cannot keep up with the comprehensive provision of information, as well as prompt delivery and competitive pricing of large, scalable online portals.
The social and functional survival of rural areas and reconnection of the population to mobility services, trade and shopping opportunities as well as participation in a cultural-social life is essential. To make this possible, autonomous regional delivery and (passenger) transport services are conceptualised and implemented in the project. These require autonomous means of transport and an information service that continuously coordinates all transported goods and services and creates a communication platform that coordinates the cyber-physical transport service. To implement this, the project will provide a vehicle with automated driving functions and enhance it with an information service-controlled access.
The user application includes a booking and marketplace system. The mobility services will be developed by and with citizens and businesses in the region and will be integrated into the application in the course of the project.
All resulting databased services will be implemented in a decentralised manner on an open platform. The system will therefore be kept open to allow citizens to post new ideas for a mobility service and/or developers to be able to extend the system. In this way, a cyber-physical social network for mobile services will be created.
The project is managed by PSI GmbH.
