Due to the worldwide developments and restrictions caused by the Corona virus (SARS-CoV-2), the 30th Aachen Machine Tool Colloquium planned for this year had to be postponed to 2021. The digital platform AWKonline already provides first insights into the relevant issues of production engineering, which will be explained in depth and in a practical way at the AWK'21 on June 10 and 11, 2021 in Aachen.

For many years, specialists and executives from industry, science and politics have come together every three years at the Aachen Machine Tool Colloquium to discuss the latest developments in the field of production technology. This rotation could not be maintained for the first time in 2020 due to the worldwide Corona pandemic. A new date has already been set: AWK'21 will take place on June 10 and 11, 2021, at the Eurogress Aachen.

To bridge the waiting time to next year, the organizers are offering a digital foretaste of the 30th AWK on the new AWKonline platform: the staff of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology IPT and the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering WZL of RWTH Aachen University, as well as experts from industry and research, are providing a preview here of various contents on the motto "Internet of Production - Turning Data into Value", which will be explained in greater depth at the 30th AWK and in a practical way using concrete case studies.

The AWKonline platform offers the digital conference proceedings for download, various presentations and exclusive video interviews with experts from science and industry on the four sessions "Architecture of networked, adaptive production", "The digital twin in manufacturing", "Analytics in production" and "Business models in the Internet of Production".

Overcoming crises with the help of digitization

With the effects of the Corona virus hitting many manufacturing companies and having a lasting impact on the global economy, there are numerous new challenges surrounding the future of production technology.

The planned program of presentations at AWK'21 is therefore intended to show which Internet of Production approaches are already valuable tools for companies to strengthen their resilience and enable them to deal with drastic crises and to be able to operate profitably again in a short time.

The content of the AWK under the motto "Internet of Production - Turning Data into Value" remains the same, but next year the focus will also be on strengthening the resilience of companies and showing them how they can overcome this and other crises with the help of digitalization.

News and information on the program and speakers are available free of charge on the AWK'21 website at
