Mathematical/technical software developer

A particular strength of the Chair of Production Engineering is the close connection between engineering and business management research, which is passed on and deepened in projects supporting manufacturing companies. The mathematical-technical software developers support the project work especially by programming web tools. In our Demonstration Factory, we are already testing practical approaches to solutions in the sense of Industry 4.0 and are developing tailor-made concepts for a company.

  • Learn how to develop sophisticated software solutions in an industrial environment
  • Participation in national and international research projects
  • Independent work with innovative technologies
  • Working in a team that supports and helps you

Working environment

We are an innovative team of engineers, MATSEs and several MATSE trainees from all years. We maintain a friendly atmosphere and support each other. We offer weekly trainee meetings, reimbursement of tuition fees and attractive training allowances. We often meet in the coffee kitchen with free coffee and water in our new premises on the Melaten Campus.

We work with professional working environments according to the DevOps procedure. This includes Git and Netbeans and the latest Java version. Here we have the opportunity to connect research and industry in the field of computer science and production and to test this in the demonstration factory.

Requirements

  • Good high school diploma
  • Independence, commitment, initiative and personal resilience
  • Very good communication skills and ability to work in a team
  • Creativity and fascination with the digital world
  • Curiosity, hunger for knowledge and thirst for information

IT specialist in system integration

During the three-year training course, IT specialists learn how to implement specialist requirements in complex hardware and software systems. They analyse, plan and implement information and telecommunication technology systems. IT specialists introduce new or modified IT technology systems. They are available to our users for specialist advice, support and training. Typical fields of application at our institute in the field of system integration are, for example, work on our networks, client/server systems and support of users from the various departments.

Industrial mechanic in the area of fine-tool engineering

In the three-and-a-half year dual training programme, industrial mechanics learn how to manufacture parts, assemblies, devices, equipment and small machines. They are taught to read construction drawings, sketches and perspective representations, to make them themselves and to work according to them. They become acquainted with a wide range of materials, their properties and areas of application as well as the possibilities of machining them. Joining techniques such as welding, soldering, gluing etc. are also taught. In order to be able to cope with the new technologies, our trainees also acquire basic skills and knowledge in the field of control and regulation technology of modern production machines.

The training is carried out in the institute's own training workshop, a learning environment that is unique at the RWTH in this form. In addition to various conventional machines, two modern CNC machines are also available to the trainees here, which are used exclusively for training purposes. Due to the close cooperation with the mechanical workshop, the trainees are integrated into the manufacturing processes and workflows of a modern production at an early stage and are thus optimally prepared for their later professional life. It is not uncommon for us to be able to offer our graduates attractive employment opportunities after their training.

Electronics technician for equipment and systems

Electronics technicians for devices and systems manufacture components and devices for machines and test benches at our institute, put them into operation and maintain them. Typical fields of application are information and communication technology devices, system components of machine tools, sensors, actuators, microsystems as well as measuring and testing technology.

During the three-and-a-half-year training course, they learn to carry out their activities independently in compliance with the relevant regulations and safety rules and coordinate their work with upstream and downstream development departments. They often work in a team.
