Investigations of Cutting Tool Durability
The research group examines different cutting materials on their durability during cutting. All relevant cutting materials are analysed such as tungsten carbides, titanium carbides and titanium nitrides, ceramics, cubic boron nitrides, diamonds and high speed steels. All cutting materials mentioned are used also in the coated condition. Different optical microscopes as well as a scanning electron microscope can be used for wear measurements of the cutting tools. Additionally energy dispersive x-ray analyses (EDX) can be accomplished.
