Fields of Expertise

The department of Business Development supports the strategic orientation, the goal-oriented development as well as the organizational optimization of manufacturing companies. Focal topics are strategy development and operationalization, the conception of innovative service and business models, the identification and on-site evaluation of international sales and procurement markets as well as the digital transformation of the entire internal and external value chain.

A branch specialization is thereby present concerning enterprises of the single and small series production, in particular on tool and mould construction enterprises. In close cooperation with the WBA Tooling Academy Aachen GmbH, a spin-off of WZL and center at the RWTH Aachen Campus, specific contents and solutions are developed and implemented. The large partner network enables an extensive exchange with experts from practice and research. The operational testing of specially developed software apps and other industry 4.0 applications takes place in the company's own demonstration tool shop.

In cooperation with companies, innovative research findings are developed, which are implemented with the help of tried and tested methods and concepts. This combination of research and practice results in a unique added value for all participants. In all projects and activities, a special focus is placed on results and customer orientation as well as on flexibility.

Services

The services focus on consulting, research and continuing education. In consulting projects, company- and application-specific solutions are developed together with customers in the areas of competence. For more than 30 years, the focus has been successfully on individual and small batch production companies. New findings from applied research flow directly into the consulting topics and make it possible to offer customers tailor-made, innovative solutions to strategic, organizational and technological problems. In order to ensure success, the projects are continuously accompanied from analysis through concept development to implementation.

In the field of research, innovative concepts are developed in close cooperation with leading manufacturing companies to address organizational and technological issues in individual and small series production. There are different forms of cooperation. In annual consortium projects, which are independently financed, a large number of strategic and operational topics are dealt with together with several partners. Long-term research projects are usually publicly funded and carried out jointly with other research institutions, associations and companies.

In addition to teaching courses of study in the field of engineering knowledge, an extensive further training program is offered together with the partner WBA Tooling Academy Aachen GmbH. Starting with webinars, one-day and multi-day seminars and extending to certificate courses, participants are taught relevant topics and methods from research and industry projects, the practical application of which is then tested. The continuing education program is aimed at junior staff and managers at various levels of qualification.
