Fields of Expertise

The availability of new technologies and the advancing digitalization and networking are fundamentally changing manufacturing companies and their environment. The department Organizational Development investigates the consequences of these technological, economic and social developments for work and organizations. We understand organizations as complex socio-technical systems that require an interdisciplinary and multi-perspective transformation approach in order to become more resilient and efficient.

Our team combines expertise from engineering, economics and psychology. We work together on scientific and practical issues of industrial change, future production work and the role of people.

Our approach is characterized by a high level of methodological competence in the field of qualitative and quantitative data acquisition and analysis as well as expertise in the implementation of behavioural principles. With our scientific work, we create research methodologically validated findings, which we share with industrial practice in transfer projects.

Central Tasks

  • Industrial transformation processes: changes in the world of work in manufacturing companies
  • Augmented Intelligence Systems: extension of human decision-making processes with data science methods
  • Human Factors: influence of human characteristics and capabilities on the performance of socio-technical systems

We transfer our findings and research expertise directly into industrial practice. Together with our customers, we develop individual solution concepts. Human-centered data provision, competence-oriented employee development, the introduction of new technologies and work processes, as well as the organizational design and strategic orientation of the organization - these are the main topics that occupy our customers intensively.

We are convinced of the growth potential of industry 4.0 and see our bilateral projects as accelerators to realize this potential. Our aim is to help shape the future of production work and to generate measurable added value for our customers.

With our national and international partner network consisting of manufacturing companies, innovative tech start-ups such as oculavis GmbH, foundations such as the Nachwuchsstiftung Maschinenbau and established research institutions such as the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM) in Cambridge, we offer our customers comprehensive expertise. In addition to customer-specific solution concepts, we offer support in the application and training of established quality management methods as well as in the preparation and support of audit and certification procedures.
