Process Control

 

The process force is the decisive process parameter for milling. A constant process force has a positive influence on process reliability (tool breakage), product quality (geometric accuracy), profitability (wear behaviour of the tool), and productivity (process speed).

Classical control methods are not sufficient to keep the process force constant during milling - despite rapidly changing engagement conditions. Model-based predictive control (MPC) uses a process model to detect changes in force early on the basis of previously calculated intervention conditions and adjust the feed accordingly.
