Technology Planning in Medical Engineering
Medical technology companies face increasing cost pressure in addition to strict legal requirements. However, existing approaches to manufacturing process and inspection design focus on functional aspects such as biocompatibility or biostability. Up to now, economic efficiency has played a clearly subordinate role in the design of manufacturing process and test sequences. In this context, a significant cost reduction potential was identified in an integrative manufacturing process and inspection planning. Previous methods follow a purely separate planning of manufacturing and testing, which means that they do not meet the increased requirements for medical devices.
As part of the DFG research project "Cost-optimised medical technology manufacturing processes through integration of technology and inspection planning", the Technology Planning Group deals with the design of manufacturing process and inspection sequences taking into account both economic aspects and the special framework conditions prevailing in medical technology.
