Gear Design and Manufacturing Simulation
A typical characteristic of gear engineering is the complexity. For this reason the highest requirements have to be met for the gear design as well as for the optimisation of manufacturing processes. In addition to that great demands are made on the run and load characteristics of modern power transmissions. In the field of investigations regarding the running behaviour higher power densities and a lower noise excitation are desired. The needs of growing productivity and the rising importance of environmental issues have to be fullfilled by the manufacturing technology. In general the only way to counter the conflictive requirements of gear design and manufacturing is the intensive use of simulation technology.
Thus the Gear Department has a 'Gear Design and Manufacturing Simulation' team, which is focused on the evaluation of gear working behaviour and the simulation of gear manufacturing processes. This team completes perfectly the research activities of the Gear Department. The tasks of this team includes on the one hand the fundamental research, which develops e.g the mathematical relations of gearings. These results are the basis for the simulation of the complex manufacturing processes and are implemented into software programms. On the other hand concrete problems from industry are solved and the results are also considered when developing our software tools.
