Career at the WZL
A student assistant at the WZL and Fraunhofer IPT - an exciting job with long-term prospects at the institutes and a kick-start for your career!
Engineering students and students of related disciplines find exciting jobs with us as student assistants (German: Hiwi).
Our student assistants carry out valuable and demanding work within the framework of national and international industrial and industry-oriented research projects, and are included from the start in project management, both from an engineering as well as an organisational aspect. For us it is "all or nothing". In this way, students can gain "on-the-job" multifaceted practical experience as early as possible. They also gain insights into industries and companies, and see first-hand the challenges of project work, allowing them to grow both professionally and personally. This institute work is not only a relevant preparation for later professional life, but the practical application of theoretical knowledge also assists in studies.
Students showing outstanding performance during their career as a student assistant are promoted to trainee at the WZL.
Advantages of the trainee status:
- Greater involvement in project work in industry and research
- Assuming first project responsibility, and presentation of results to research partners
- Training opportunities in the WZL doctoral student seminars, for example on project management, negotiating
- Own laptop
We are pleased that many of our student assistants opt to plan their future career together with us. They become postgraduate research assistants, assume complete responsibility for exciting projects and gain a PhD at our institutes. Even those who opt to follow a different path following graduation will profit in the long-term and in a sustained way from the time spent at our institutes. We hear this again and again from our former student assistants - even many years later. This makes us very proud.
We even support our student assistants in planning their studies and use our global network of industrial and research contacts to find work experience placements nationally or internationally. We can also assist in finding student stays at universities abroad.
