Research Group
Gear Power Density

The increase in power density in modern powertrains is a key optimization criterion in the development of future powertrains. For an accurate design, the experimental safeguarding of the gear load carrying capacity and efficiency is obligatory. The research and development work of the gearbox power density group directs the focus on the application and optimization of testing methods. Besides the key aspect of analyzing the influence of manufacturing-related properties on the running behavior, the determined values are used to validate local calculation models for load carrying capacity and efficieny. The running behavior is analyzed for cylindrical and bevel gears as well as for special gear, such as beveloids. In order to meet future requirements, existing testing concepts are continuously improved (e.g. high-speed back-to-back test rigs).
