The coating technology by chemical separation of the gaseous phase (CVD) makes it possible to use diamond layers on strongly three-dimensional curved surfaces, presented by end millers, twist drills or by inserts with in-sintered chip form geometry. So the wear development at cutting tools can be come up against with the hardest material. The diamond coatings were manufactured by the CVD technology and are free from binders. This binder cannot be dissolved and additionally no abrasive tool wear like e.g. coatings of polycrystallines diamond is existent. The research group works in close co-operation with cutting material and tool manufacturers as well as a coaters and contributes to the advancement of the diamond layers, which are applied on the cutting tool by the CVD technology.
