Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering
Partners of the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) from Industry and Research:
The Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering has a network of several national and international partners from research and industry. In particular we enjoy a close collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology and the WZLforum at RWTH Aachen University.
Like the WZL, the Fraunhofer Institut für Produktionstechnologie IPT is organised into four focal areas of production engineering, and is headed by the professors of the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering.
The focal areas of the scientific/engineering work of the institute lie in the use of unconventional active energies, processing new materials, optimising conventional processes, precision machining, quality inspections and investment planning. As an institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the primary activities lie in applied contract research. The IPT has signed a cooperation agreement with RWTH Aachen University.
Located in Aachen at the heart of production engineering research of global renown, the WZLforum at RWTH Aachen University brings together the latest developments from the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University and the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT), and presents the results in seminars and workshops.
We continually offer up-to-date events dealing with business issues, and are guided to a high degree by the concrete tasks of engineering and management personnel. As a competent partner in matters of training we are happy to support you at any time.
Through membership in the German Academic Society for Production Engineering (WGP) and The International Academy for Production Engineering (CIRP), the WZL is active at a national and international level in scientific exchange between the leading institutes of production engineering.

The IIF - Institut für Industriekommunikation und Fachmedien (institute for industrial communication and trade media) at RWTH Aachen University is interdisciplinary. It unites three disciplines: engineering sciences, business administration and communication science.
The institute's focus is on the problems of knowledge communication across the value-added chain (industrial communication) and on processing this information with the trade media. The research is applied and is complemented by a diverse spectrum of services.
We view the efficient use of knowledge in a company as a crucial prerequisite for innovations and competitive advantage.
The FIR (Research Institute for Operations Management) is a non-profit research centre at RWTH Aachen University spanning several industries. Together with its customers from research and industry, the institute designs the structural and technical organisation and information fabric that is necessary in an innovative company.
The FIR is under the scientific management of Professor Günther Schuh. The managing director of the institute is Dr. Volker Stich. The research and consulting fields of the FIR include the areas of service, information and production management. In these areas, the FIR is also a contact point for professional training measures.
Further information about the FIR may be found at the institute's website.
