Field of Research
New Materials

The development of new materials is the basis for innovative products, for example in the automotive, the aerospace and or the medical industry. For the production of these products, the materials must be machined by grinding oftentimes. In order to design a knowledge-based process the cause-effects in grinding have to be examined. The focus of this research effort is to investigate the influence of the material properties on the chip formation in the grinding process and on the process results.

Main topics:

  • Polycrystalline diamond (PCD)
  • Steel
  • Fiber-reinforced ceramics (CMCs)
  • Titanium aluminides
  • Nickel based alloys
  • Carbide metals
  • Material analysis
  • Analysis of chip formation
