Technology Planning in Medical Engineering
Companies in medical engineering are confronted with strict legal requirements in addition to a rising cost pressure. Existing approaches to product and process design, however, focus on functional aspects such as biocompatibility and biostability. Economic aspects are often neglected in the design of medical products and production processes. In this context a significant cost reduction potential has been identified in an integrated product and process design. However, existing methods for integrated product and process design do not meet the increased demands on medical devices.
Within the ZIM-cooperation project "Development of an innovative methodology for an integrated product and process design of implants using the example of a heart assist pump", the research group Technology Planning studies the layout of the product and process design, taking into account both economic aspects as well as the special conditions prevailing in the medical industry.
